Community Corner

We are IT is committed to giving back to our community. This section highlights the different community organizations we have partnered with one of the organizations that We Are IT donated gently used and new coats to was the Newhouse Shelter. Some other organizations that we would like to highlight are: Unbound, Ronald McDonald House, and Bishop Sullivan Center.

Helping Hands at Harvesters:

We Are IT loves to give back to the community. This year, our team visited Harvesters. Harvesters is a local food bank that serves a 26 county area across Kansas and Missouri. Harvesters focuses on feeding children, families, seniors and promoting healthy eating. 1 in 7 people in our region is food insecure which makes the work that Harvesters does even more important. Last year, Harvesters distributed more than 39 million meals to hungry people in our region. We Are IT was very proud and honored to work with such a great organization and such a great cause. We went into the day with great excitement for the opportunity to help our community by any means necessary. Our team members and some family members worked very hard and ended up packaging 705 meals for people in need that day. To learn more about Harvesters, please click the link below.

Community Outreach Program:

We appreciate each and every one of our wonderful clients. We wouldn’t be where we are without them so we like to occasionally share information about our clients. See below for our most recent submission.

This is Michelle who lives in Philippines with her family. Michelle, who was born in 2003, was introduced to We Are IT by a Kansas City based organization named Unbound. Unbound helps provide food, clothing and education to people like Michelle all around the world. We Are IT has become an Unbound sponsor with Michelle being our sponsored child since January 2012.

Michelle lives with her father, her mother, two brothers and one sister. Their home is made of concrete and has electricity but they have no running water and they cook with a wood burning stove. Her father works as a hired farmer and her mother works as a housekeeper so they can provide a simple living for their four children.

Through Unbound, We Are IT’s goal is to help provide Michelle some of the basic needs of her life making it easier for her parents to raise their family. We also want Michelle and her family to feel our support, care and love. So, in addition to a monthly sponsorship donation, we send cards, letters, pictures and small gifts to her and her family.

Ronald McDonald House:

Starting in May 2012 We Are IT decided to select the Ronald McDonald House as one of the recipients of the items collected during the Power Hour. The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities is to reduce the burden of childhood illness on children and their families. They accomplish this by:

  • Creating a caring and uplifting environment
  • Providing comfortable lodging convenient to a health facility
  • Undertaking resource and fund development activities that support their facilities, programs and services

Ronald McDonald House Charities cannot cure a child, but it can alleviate the worry and expense of finding a close, comfortable and affordable place for a family to stay while their child receives the medical care they need. That can make a world of difference to a child bravely battling an illness or recovering from a serious injury. The concept of a Ronald McDonald Family Room was pioneered in Kansas City and since its inception has spread to over 150 worldwide. In 2011 Ronald McDonald House Charities celebrated 30 years of serving Families and children. To view the Ronald McDonald Wish list please visit

Bishop Sullivan Center

Bishop Sullivan Center was created in 1972 under the name of Cooperative Social Services. Three Catholic parishes in the northeast part of Kansas City created the Center in response to the growing numbers of people living in poverty in their neighborhood. In 1994 it was named after Bishop Sullivan, a former bishop of the Kansas City-St. Joseph Catholic Diocese, who was particularly concerned about the poor.

Originally, the Center offered a food pantry and limited utility assistance to needy families. Over the years, as the needs of people grew so did the services of the Center. The Center now operates two food pantries, a community kitchen, employment services, a clothes closet, elderly services and financial emergency assistance. To find out how you can help please visit:
